Memorializing Wombat Love
If we were to have formally celebrated Memorial Day...
we would have worn red poppies.
We would have visited a cemetery.
And put flags on all the gravestones.
We would have attended a parade. And bowed to the veterans.
Visited a memorial.
Put the flag at half mast until 12 noon.
We would have stopped doing what we were doing at 3 p.m.
And stood for a moment of silence.
Or had someone play taps on the trumpet.
But no.
We celebrated informally.
By meeting new wombat love.
By being (just being) with each other.
We played hard.
And celebrated the sun...
and the official beginning of summer.
Sweet sweet love.
